Literacy Academic Facilitator

Athens R. Parker currently serves as a K–8 Academic Facilitator for Literacy, where she provides instructional coaching, facilitates professional learning communities, and supports teachers in delivering high-quality, data-driven literacy instruction. In this role, she leads initiatives to strengthen reading and writing instruction, develops intervention units aligned to state standards, and collaborates with school leadership to ensure equitable learning opportunities for all students.

A proud Washington, D.C. native, Athens graduated from DC Public Schools before earning a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education with an emphasis in English and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction in General Education. She later completed a Post-Master’s Certificate in Administration and Supervision, further equipping her to serve educators and students at a systems level.

With over 12 years of teaching experience, Athens has demonstrated consistent leadership as a Team Lead for three consecutive years and as the host teacher for two student teachers, both of whom remain in education and are thriving in their own classrooms today. Her areas of expertise include literacy instruction, teacher development, collaborative planning, and curriculum design, all driven by a deep belief that empowered educators lead to empowered students.

Outside of her professional work, Athens is passionate about student success, fostering understanding and empathy in classrooms, and sharing her love of learning. An avid reader and anime enthusiast, she finds joy in stories in books, on screen, and in the lives of the students and teachers she serves.
